2nd Chess Tournament

We are pleased to announce the 2026 House Symposium Chess Tournament, a special social activity taking place at the end of the first day of the symposium, on November 26, at the Brain Institute Library.

The tournament is intended as a relaxed and engaging opportunity for our community to unwind after a full day of scientific activities, enjoy a friendly challenge, and strengthen interactions across laboratories and research groups in an informal setting. And, of course, one question remains: which laboratory will take home this year’s title?

The tournament will follow a Swiss-system format, with 8 rounds and a time control of 5 minutes + 3 seconds per move. Awards will be presented in three categories: Individual (Open), Women’s, and Laboratory Teams. The laboratory standings will be determined by the combined scores of the two highest-scoring players from each laboratory, adding an exciting team competition to the individual tournament.

As part of the House Symposium program, the tournament is open to all registered symposium participants. Registration for the chess tournament is also mandatory (see registration form). Please register in advance so that we can organize the boards, pairings, and tournament structure efficiently.

We warmly encourage all House Symposium participants, including undergraduate and graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, technicians, faculty, and staff, to join us for an evening of strategy, fun, and community building. Whether you are an experienced player or simply enjoy a friendly game of chess, you are very welcome to participate. We hope the tournament will become another memorable part of the House Symposium experience.
